Packed & Ready

We are officially packing and getting ourselves ready to move!  I had planned to get a lot more done this past week, but the flu pretty much knocked me down and stomped on me.

We did manage to get our keys to the new apartment this weekend.  Yes, apartment.  I am not super excited about apartment life, even though it is lovely and very convenient.  Mark and I intend to buy land and build, but finding land around here is NOT easy, so in order to have enough time to find what we really want so we aren’t settling, we are going to be apartment dwellers for a short bit.

We’ve had a lot of people question why we want to build instead of just buying something already built and move-in ready.  Well, for one thing, this area is expensive!  It will still be expensive to build BUT there are a lot of ways to save if you are willing to put in the work, which we are.  We also haven’t been able to find a house we wouldn’t have to completely re-do anyway on the amount of land we want.  So why not start fresh?  We really want enough land to have some critters and space to play on, thus the challenge to find what we want.

In the meantime, we will be downsizing and simplifying, which I have been wanting to do for some time anyway.  Our apartment is still 3 bedrooms and we actually have more storage than I expected, but I think removing some of the stuff that clutters our lives will be a good thing.  I mentioned this around Christmas about toys specifically, but I also plan to apply this decluttering to myself as well.  I am not much of a pack-rat, but I do have some random things that I have held onto for years for no good reason at all.

Even though I think this is a great idea, I am sure it will be more challenging that I expect.

  • What decluttering tips do you have?
  • What are some items you can’t live without?
  • What are some items you wish you’d removed from your home earlier?

3rd..other than tools, there is no “someday”

  2. The Magic Art of Tidying Up

It’s a quick read and can be read almost as a to-do list as you move through the process of de-cluttering. I’m not much for best sellers, and the author isn’t necessarily profound – but I don’t think it is a stretch to say the book is life changing. It alters the way you view material possessions, enables you to declitter with logic, and also touches base with a bit of zen.

Best wishes on your newest adventure!
